Police arrest two men after report of knifepoint robbery at Pontypool pharmacy

Staff at a pharmacy in Pontypool were confronted by a man who entered the premises wielding a knife and demanding money on Monday.

Gwent Police sent firearms officers to the scene and searched the area after receiving a report of a robbery at the pharmacy, which they have not named. "We do not routine publish the locations of offences, such as burglaries, as it is has the potential to identify a victim of crime," the force told Independent Community Pharmacist.

Gwent Police arrested two men in Gwent Square, Cwmbran, aged 41 and 57 from Merthyr Tydfil on suspicion of robbery. The pair have since been charged and are due to appear in magistrates court today, the force told ICP.

"We received a report of a robbery at a pharmacy in Pontypool at around 10.05am on Monday 22 April. An unknown man reportedly entered the store and demanded money while holding a knife, before leaving the scene in a vehicle,” Gwent Police said.

No injuries were reported. According to the South Wales Argus, one witness reported officers yelling at the suspect to get on the ground and insisted the area was “buzzing with police.”
